The Marina Whitman files series is comprised of the Administrative File subseries, the Speech File subseries, and the Subject Files subseries. The Administrative Files subseries contains correspondence and travel vouchers relating to Whitman's activities as a member of the Council of Economic Advisers. The Speech Files subseries contains correspondence, drafts of speeches, press releases, papers, and printed material. Topics covered include the Economic Stabilization Program; new economic policy; international monetary reform; wage-price controls, and international trade. The Subject Files subseries contains correspondence, memoranda, telegrams, press releases, newspaper clippings, and other such materials related to the economy. Topics include trade negotiations between the United States and various foreign countries; exchange rates; reserve assets and convertibility; women in the economy; tax reform; the devaluation of the dollar and the Advisory council on the Status of Women.

Marina von Neumann Whitman is an American economist, writer and former automobile executive. From 1979 until 1992 she was an officer of the General Motors Corporation. Prior to her appointment at GM, Whitman was a member of the faculty in the Department of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh. Whitman received a B.A. in government from Radcliffe College (now Harvard University), graduating at the top of her class, and her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in economics from Columbia University. The...
